Baron A.M. Stessel (1848 — 1915) — the Russian general aide-de-camp, the commandant of Port Arthur during Russian-Japanese war. After a long siege, in the conditions of a lack of the food and ammunition, big human losses and at superior forces of the opponent, contrary to orders of command on deduction of fortress and opinion of council of officers of the fortress (insisting on defense continuation), he handed over Port Arthur to Japanese armies.
